Little Feat drummer Richie Hayward has died at the age of 64, succumbing to the Liver Disease he has been fighting since late last year. The news was confirmed on the Little Feat Facebook fan page with a post from the band, which read: "Respected by many as a musician, loved by more as a person. R.I.P. Richie."

Diagnosed with Liver Disease in Aug. of 2009, Hayward was forced to quit his duties as drummer for Little Feat, but was never out of the band's hearts or thoughts. A benefit concert was organized to help him with his treatment costs. And recently, guitarist Paul Barrere told Jambands that Hayward, "looked surprisingly well. He was waiting on CAT scan results of his liver to see if they'd put him on the transplant list. He was in great spirits. He said he missed us. He's such a fighter."

Richie Hayward worked with a wide range of artists, including Eric Clapton, Tom Waits and Bob Seger, but appropriately, hIs final appearance behind the kit was guesting for Little Feat during a festival set in Vancouver a mere month ago.
