Top Five VMA Moments

Choosing the top five VMA moments is no easy task. Now entering it's 26th year on MTV, the Video Music Awards seem to be marked more by the memorably absurd than for the awards or performances themselves, and it's because of the show's high rate of unruly behavior that this list could've gone longer. So we thought it would be much more impactful to just give you our top five most memorable VMA moments, but remember, these are our picks, tell us your top VMA moments after the jump.
05
Eminem Meets Bruno's Butt
2009
The VMAs have become synonymous with bare bottoms. From the original "Butt Man" Howard Stern to shock-rocker Marilyn Manson, we've seen more rear end than we'd like to admit. But not nearly as much as Eminem got in this up-close-and-personal look at Bruno, aka Sacha Baron Cohen, during this top VMA moment. We're told it was a planned stunt, but Eminem's reaction still has us wondering.
04
Michael Jackson and Lisa Marie Presley Kiss
1994
In an attempt to prove their love, the late Michael Jackson and Lisa Marie Presley shared what was probably the most uncomfortable on-screen kiss of all time. The royal relationship between the King of Pop and the daughter of the King of Rock wouldn't last, and many point to this moment as the beginning of the end.
03
Madonna and Britney Spears Kiss
2003
In keeping with the kissing theme, we think it's strange that most of the world found the Madonna and Britney Spears kiss less uncomfortable than the Michael Jackson, Lisa Marie kiss. Unless you were Britney's boyfriend at the time, and the camera zooms in on your face right afterwards.
02
Kris Novoselic Takes a Bass to the Face
1992
While the false-start of 'Rape Me' at the '92 VMAs may be Nirvana's lasting VMA legacy, it's Kris Novoselic getting hit in the face by his own bass (at 4:14) that most people remember from that performance. It may be unfortunate for him, but luckily for us, we can see both top VMA moments in this video.
01
Kanye Interrupts Taylor Swift
2009
Interruptions of acceptance speeches have become a tradition at the VMAs. And while it's not as colorful as Adam Yauch of the Beastie Boys interrupting R.E.M. on behalf of Spike Jonze for Best Director in '94, Kanye West interrupting Taylor Swift during her acceptance speech for Female Video of the Year has become a pivotal moment in each of their respective careers. The fact it's still the talk of the awards show a year later makes it our top VMA moment.
