Justin Bieber was discovered in 2008 by Scooter Braun, who came across Bieber's videos on YouTube and later became his manager. Braun, who also manages many hip-hop stars, arranged for him to meet with Usher, and before long Justin Bieber was signed to a joint publishing venture between Braun and Usher, and then to a recording contract with Island Records.
Since then, Usher and Justin Bieber have become close friends and business associates. Usher is involved in most of Bieber's day to day activities, including recording, live performances, and even training the young understudy how to control his voice through puberty.
