The announcement was made as part of a promotion for the American Music Awards, which will air on Nov. 10. Ryan Seacrest, one of the producers of the awards show, first announced the news the two groups will share the stage on the air before hitting the road.
"I can OFFICIALLY confirm that @NKOTB and @BackstreetBoys are going on tour Summer 2011!" Seacrest tweeted. An update on his Facebook page later read, "All nine boys will get together for the first time this Monday, November 8 for an exclusive in studio (radio) interview with Ryan to talk about making preparations for the upcoming tour. Your first opportunity to see Donnie, Joey, Jordan, Jonathan, Danny, Brian, AJ, Howie and Nick perform live together will be November 21st on the American Music Awards."
Tentatively called NKOTBSB, the news of the tour was also announced via a promotional video on the New Kids on the Block's website, which emphatically states, "Two of the world's biggest bands ... Over 200 million records sold ... One stage."
