Later that same day, Latona released a clarification of the letter, saying it was a "personal letter" to subscribers that was taken out of context and iterated that she stands by the decision to use Rimes on the cover. Meanwhile, Rimes' rep denies the star's absence had anything to do with the controversy, saying that LeAnn Rimes actually fell ill. "Unfortunately [Rimes] caught the flu, and under doctor's orders was advised not to travel or go out."
Rimes also canceled appearances on Friday, including a show at the Turning Stone Resort and Casino in central New York.
The news of LeAnn Rimes missing the Shape party comes on the heels of the rumors boyfriend Eddie Cribrian has proposed to Rimes for real following their joke Halloween engagement over the weekend. Cibrian sparked speculation after posting a photo on his Twitter, which showed Cibrian proposing to a shocked Rimes. The photo was later dismissed as a hoax, but sources tell E! Online the actor has privately asked Rimes to be his wife for real, and she has accepted.
