The reggae star, who's real name is Mark Myrle, has been in prison since Dec. of 2009 when he was arrested for allegedly attempting to buy drugs from an undercover law enforcement officer in Florida. When the case finally went to trial, the jury could not come to a verdict, so the judge declared a mistrial. Though a temporary reprieve, it meant Buju would be forced to spend another four months behind bars until the retrial, which was set for Feb. 2011.
But yesterday [Nov. 10], Buju Banton was finally able to leave prison after spending 11 months behind bars because friend Stephen Marley has posted bail by placing his Fla. home, worth $300,000, as collateral. Upon release, Buju was forced to sign an extradition waiver and wear an electronic monitoring device to ensure he stays in America.
