Esperanza Spalding Wins Best New Artist AwardWireImage

Esperanza Spalding might have been the most unexpected Grammy winner of 2011. Beating out heavy-hitters Justin Bieber, Drake, Florence and the Machine, and Mumford and Sons, the jazz singer and bassist won the award for Best New Artist.

Without a top 10 single to her credit, the 26-year-old multi-instrumentalist from Portland, Ore. stunned the crowd by walking home with one of the Big Four awards of the night. Probably best known for her collaboration album with M. Ward, 'Transfiguration of Vincent,' Esperanza Spalding is now the Grammy Winner for Best New Artist of 2011.
