Immediately following Esperanza's surprise win as Best New Artist at this year's Grammy Awards ceremony, where she beat out Bieber, Mumford & Sons, Drake and Florence and the Machine, millions of fans expressed their outrage over Bieber's loss via Twitter. Some fans even went so far as to infiltrate Esperanza's Wikipedia page, leaving insults and fiercely pro-Bieber comments.
Following his loss, Bieber was surprised but offered only good wishes for the jazz singer/bassist, telling MTV News, "I'm not going to lie. I was disappointed. But, you know, I'm gonna come back [next year] and we'll take a few home." Bieber even tweeted to fans, "As for the awards ... of course I wanted to win. Its been and still is a dream to win a Grammy. Was I upset ... yes. But I was happy for her also. I don't plan on this being my last chance."
Spalding responded to her win in shock. "I certainly did not expect to even be considered for that type of nomination," she said. "Me being a little old jazz musician and everything."
