Apple's iTunes, who have historically refused to give out sales figures, broke from protocol today announcing that Gaga's 'Born This Way' became the fastest-selling single in the history of the iTunes store, selling more than one million tracks in just five days. This follows the news that 'Born This Way' became the 1000th No. 1 song on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in the list's 52-year history.
"It is a tremendous honor," Gaga told Billboard. "I am so humbled and so honored and overwhelmed by the reception to 'Born This Way.' [It] has been so life-changing for me as an artist ... I couldn't be more blessed to have the fans that I have."
'Born This Way' is the title track from Lady Gaga's upcoming May 23 release. In a recent 'On-Air With Ryan Seacrest' interview, she described the new album as eclectic. "I explore lots of different genres in tandem with dance music and electronic music and industrial music," said Gaga. "I expanded even further in that area."
