Yesterday it was reported that Ashlee Simpson and Pete Wentz were ready to battle it out over custody and visitation rights of their two-year-old son Bronx Mowgli. Wentz requested joint physical and legal custody and a split of child support payments as well. But now, sources close to the couple are claiming that, while true, the paperwork is not reflective of how the Fall Out Boy bassist feels.

Speaking to RadarOnline, a source told the site that "Ashlee's family was really upset when they heard about the custody and support requests, and Pete felt really bad about it." The couple is said to be compromising on many of the issues in question, and that the paperwork filed is more strategic.

"It doesn't seem like Pete was the one to make the decisions about support and custody, it sounds more like his lawyers were responsible for the move."

The source went on to add that a visitation "schedule that works for both of them" is being worked on, and that Wentz "told Ashlee not to worry because he would be paying support."

"Pete made way more money than Ashlee did during their two-year marriage, but that was because she was being a mom and not working, so he will definitely be supporting her," the source added. "He loves her and wishes they could stay married. They get along really well and have been so good about sharing time with Bronx."
