NEeMA is a Canadian singer-songwriter of Egyptian and Lebanese descent whose sophomore release, 'Watching You Think,' is making waves across the US. Of course, it doesn't hurt to have Leonard Cohen in your corner. The legendary singer is a huge supporter of NEeMA -- even illustrating a picture of the singer for her new record -- calling her a "voice of true feeling." Her feelings are definitely evident in the new video for her song 'Elsa's Lullaby,' which is a tribute to her dog.

Shot to look like old, grainy, 8mm home video, 'Elsa's Lullaby' takes footage of NEeMA playing with Elsa and intertwines it with tour and studio shots. Beginning life as a poem, the song grew out of a conversation with a young girl who asked NEeMA if she had any songs about her beautiful dog. She does now.

Any funny or interesting moments on set during the video shoot?

Watching Elsa cautiously tiptoe into the coffee shop (she was apprehensive knowing she normally has to wait outside). Running ahead whistling and calling Elsa for her to keep up, only to find I had been running like a madwoman screaming to myself. The entire Montreal portion was filmed during a weekend that was so cold the government had put out warnings not to go outside -- there I was lying in the snow, having it thrown in my face, spending hours and hours in thirty-below weather -- all for the sake of the shot. Elsa was such an amazing trooper through it all, confused by our crazy direction much of the time but always right there with us.

You describe Elsa as 'the love of your life'? Do any of your two-legged companions ever get jealous?

A former partner might have, he probably wasn't serious but he alluded to it several times.

How did you form a relationship with Leonard Cohen? Is it hard not to be intimidated by such a legend?

We bumped into each other one day in Montreal and a friendship formed from there. Leonard's a very generous spirit who makes everyone feel at home. I'm always a little shy when sharing a new song with him (I usually mumble the words the first time around).

What's the one piece of advice Leonard has given you that's stuck with you the most?

Take your time.

What I see is an irresponsible dog owner who walks her dog around a city without a leash - which is against the law. If you know the rescue that she adopted this dog from, please send them the link... I'm sure they'd be thrilled to know that the dog that they spent time rescuing is being walked without a leash. This is a perfect example of an irresponsible dog owner. This is a slap in the face of the people who worked to save this dog. Boooo!

NEeMA's singing slowly and sweetly with her gentle finger-picking wrap themselves together in love around Elsa... and Elsa around NEeMA. It all comes together like a meditation as much as a song and so beautifully done. As one who loves animals very much, I relate so well with what it means for you to have Elsa in your life. Thank you for sharing the two of yours story, NEeMA.

What a beautiful song and touching video. I made it almost to the end before I started to cry. NEeMA certainly knows how to weave a tail ;-) and pull you in with her compelling voice. I need to hug a dog now.
