Rihanna Shoots Sex Attacker in 'Man Down' Video

Rihanna FilmMagic

Rihanna has premiered a graphic and controversial new music video for her latest single 'Man Down,' in which she takes revenge on a sex offender by shooting him.

Rihanna, who was infamously assaulted in 2009 by then-boyfriend Chris Brown, literally shoots a man down at the opening of her Anthony Mandler-directed, Jamaican-filmed video. The 'Hard' singer opens fire on a man at a railway station before a series of flashback images reveal that the murdered man was Rihanna's nightclub assailant.

Rihanna took to her Twitter page to tell fans "Thank you for the amazing response on Man Down video I love you guys, and I love that u got it!!! Young girls/women all over the world... we are a lot of things! We're strong innocent fun flirtatious vulnerable, and sometimes our innocence can cause us to be naive!" The singer continued, "We always think it could never be us, but in reality, it can happen to any of us! So ladies be careful and listen to yo mama! I love you and I care!"

Rihanna may have been going for self-defense and female empowerment, but there is no doubt the video will drum up controversy.

Really, people? This video is not that graphic. I understand that some people have to be offended by something or someone to function and that the media needs news stories and what not.... with that said, this video is nothing to be offended by. Yes, it shows a rape and a murder sceen, but as far as sceens like that go, it was very non-graphic. The video goes well with the song and everyone can just get over how "offensive" it is and move on to the next thing to be offended by. Like this comment. :)

Compared to the video games this day this is a love story. Parents shouls be more conserned about what they do and not what others do.

WTF is graphic about the video? I think parents should be more interested in how they are raising their kids instead of looking for bs reasons to run their mouths. All these kids commiting suicide about bullying and they're complaining about a video which has NOTHING graphic at all. If anything she should commend her for the video teaching women to stand up for themselves, if I was sexually assaulted I'd shot a man down and every female should do the same! I swear these morons who call themselves "adults" and "parents" these days get on my nerves...

I am proud of Rihanna for facing her demons. When is abuse of any kind going to stop. Honestly it wasn't a bad video(now I would not let my 8 year old watch it). She is brave by bringing this subject matter to the table. Women need to believe in themselves and if you need help ask. Rape, verbal abuse, and physical abuse needs to end and women around the world need to be brave, strong, and yes it is scary to try and get out or go get a rape test done for yourself and if you have children. We women are forces to be reckoned with. Rihanna thanks for going outside the box and bringing the abuse to the front of people's minds.
