Katy Perry Ties With Michael Jackson's Hits Record ... But Will She Beat It?

Diva Katy Perry continues her reign, officially tying the Billboard Charts record with the Michael Jackson with her fifth No. 1 single to pop off her platinum-selling 'Teenage Dream' album. Previously, only Jackson yielded five chart-toppers off a single album, 'Bad.'

Clearly, the singer-turned-Smurfette is living the dream, raking in the most MTV Video Music Award nominations this year and endlessly capturing the media's attention -- one sexy outfit and new hairdo at a time.

With her No. 1 video-assisted hits -- the teen bash-themed 'Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)', the Candyland adventure of 'California Gurls,' the alien-esque 'E.T.' and the pyrotechnic-breasted femme-power anthem 'Firework' -- the pop princess is not afraid to embrace her girlie side and outta-this-world ambitions.

Do you think Katy Perry will dethrone the King of Pop with another No. 1 hit?

WOW I dont remember any of MICHAEL'S songs teaching teens to have sex and go all the way ,that isnt music that is singing porn and giving listeners the wrong set of ideas , dont we have enough problems with teen pregnancy already without a supposedly star writing a song to encourage it , shame on you Katy Perry

For me, an artist needs to have originality like artists of the past they each brought something new, it was not a cut and paste photoshop of other artists which seems to be the case with Lady Gaga and Katy Perry. The kids today are spoon fed by soundbites; never had an original thought. They buy into anything on facebook and twitter, insatiable hunger to feed the bottomless pit. But thats just my opinion.

The only song I ever seem to hear is E.T. I took a sampling of her songs on Amazon they all seem to sound the same with different lyrics. I guess it fits in with the teen clubs.

Katy Perry is a modern day artist. She writes all her own songs. She tours constantly. She developed her own style and has promoted herself flawlessly. Quite frankly she worked her butt off to get where she is today and deserves all her accolades.

Writing, developing, promoting and working your butt off are all fine and good but at the end of the day they do not make you a talented or original artist.....only rich and popular with the people who are buying this shallow and rather mindless form of pop entertainment. The "Teenage Dream" video I just witnessed here for the first and last time is blatantly exploitative and sends the worst kind of irresponsible message to teenagers everywhere. Sorry....I just call it like it is. She has really come a long way since her Christian pop music years I see.

No, no, no, no, NO!!
What is music coming to?! Katy Perry is a 10th of the artist Michael ever was - just shows the people really are willing to settle for much worse than they ever did before.
For one thing, 'E.T' is absolutely AWFUL.
That last question is really ridiculous. No one can dethrone him - no matter how many records they 'break.'
Michael was an ARTIST. The woman you're looking at here in this article is simply a phase.
There's a huge difference.

collectsrocks, actually it does. I quote from the above, "Do you think Katy Perry will dethrone the King of Pop with another No. 1 hit?". That's what this article is entirely about.

the sad part is that all the songs sound the same, and E.T. absolutely sucks.

This speaks to the SAD STATE of music these days. When manufactured Diva crap can top the charts and be so popular. The kids keep buying crap so the record companies just keep producing crap. Much of today's kids are music mental midgets.

Wow, that's just sad. She's so dreadfully bad to me, but I'm a heterosexual dude; so, I'm probably not her target audience. To each his/her own, I guess.
