Gavin opened the set at the piano, dressed in all black -- like the dark-curtained, black box studio -- and topped with a fedora. Gavin kicked off the live session performing 'In Love With a Girl,' the lead single off his self-titled second studio album.
Gavin rose from the piano to the standing mic for the second number, 'Sweeter,' graciously bowing at its close. DeGraw kept it moving like a sweet 'Chariot' with 'Follow Through,' a song from his third studio effort ('Chariot'), which according to DeGraw, is about "doing the things you said you were going to do."
"If you love someone enough to protect them ... then you know what this song is about," Gavin told the intimate studio crowd as he took his seat back on the piano bench for 'Soldier.' "I'll be your soldier," he sang. The song will be on the singer's upcoming September 20 release, 'Sweeter,' he revealed.
Speaking of 'Sweeter,' Gavin introduced new song 'Candy,' another track from the forthcoming album. DeGraw's voice absolutely soared while singing this up-tempo tune. "We can't survive on candy," he warned. Next, the performer tackled one of his biggest hits to date, 'Chariot,' with an enthusiasm that matched the song's infectious, positive energy and message.
"When you're in the wrong relationship, but you haven't decided it's wrong yet, you keep making that late-night call," Gavin explained to the audience. "Those people who don't know what I'm talking about I'm really happy for you ... This song is for the people who do know what I'm talking about," he announced before launching into a racy rendition of 'Radiation,' which included a surprise for one lucky female audience member. Gavin wandered into the crowd before sitting on the lap of a pretty, and shocked, lady and serenading her! Gavin later showed it was all in good fun, joking about his "moves," or lack thereof.
Next up was Gavin's new single, the Ryan Tedder co-penned 'Not Over You' and the "last hurrah" was, as Gavin put it, "a song that broke down a lot of doors for me." The 'Chariot' single 'I Don't Wanna Be' is Gavin's top-charting hit to date, and he showed us why with a performance that brought the audience to their feet.
