After her red carpet announcement and post-performance baby bump reveal, Twitter's official global PR feed, @TwitterGlobalPR, tweeted Monday (Aug. 29) that the big baby news broke a record for the popular social networking site at 10:35 PM EST, with 8,868 tweets per second. The most tweets per second ever recorded for a single event!
According to TechCrunch, the previous record was 7,196 tweets per second, held by the 2011 Women's World Cup finals, in which the U.S. women's soccer team lost to Japan during the final seconds of the game in a penalty shootout back in July.
The popularity of Beyonce's baby news beats out other highly tweeted events including Osama Bin Laden's death in May, the 2011 Super Bowl in January, 2010 New Years Eve in Japan, the Japanese earthquake and tsunami in March, and England's Royal Wedding in April.
