To the Gleeks reading this, don't go causing an uproar about 'Glee's Darren Criss and the announcement that he would be, in fact, taking over the role after Radcliffe's departure. It turns out that both Baby Jonas and the 'Glee' heartthrob will take their turns playing the role of J. Pierrepont Finch!
Criss' brief, three-week stint runs from Jan. 3 through Jan. 22 of next year, at which point Jonas will take over for an eight-week run from Jan. 24 until July 1. Funnily enough, Nick is also hoping for a role with Criss and the cast of 'Glee'!
"This is going to be an exciting journey," the 19-year-old said in a statement during yesterday's announcement (Sept. 7). And if you're questioning the acting street cred of a teen pop star, you should know that Nick is a seasoned vet when it comes to the Broadway stage. He's appeared in everything from "Annie Get Your Gun" in 2001, to "Beauty and the Beast" in 2002, "Les Miserables" in 2003 and several other notable off-Broadway shows.
"It's great to come back to Broadway. I always said my return to Broadway would have to feel right -- the right role at the right time. This felt right," Jonas revealed.
The show's director and choreographer, Tony and Emmy award-winner Rob Ashford even said that Jonas probably has more experience on stage than many actors in the cast and he added, "It's good news for bringing young people to theater."
