On This Day in Pop Music History ...

Rock/pop crossover superstars Aerosmith will likely never forget this day in their band's history. Back in 1978, both front man Steven Tyler and lead guitarist Joe Perry were injured when a crazed fan through a cherry bomb on stage during a show in Philadelphia. Aerosmith's rhythm guitarist, Brad Whitford, remembers it being a truly chaotic scene: "Steven immediately covered his face and there was blood shooting up out of Joe's arm, literally. So pretty quickly we got ourselves to the emergency room. I have to say we were shaken by it and extremely pissed off. We didn't come back to Philadelphia for quite a while." Unbelievably enough, when the band did eventually return soon after to the City of Brotherly Love, Steven was hit in the face with a bottle while on stage. We're guessing those rough and tumble shows of his youth make Steven appreciate the cushy chair and beefed up security at his new gig as an American Idol judge!
