John Mayer Undergoes Throat Surgery, Dreams of Returning to the Big Stage

John Mayer has undergone surgery to remove the inflamed throat tissue that forced him to cancel a pair of shows last month.

Taking to his Tumblr page last Thursday (Oct. 20), the singer, guitarist and sometime tabloid figure revealed that he'd gone under the knife earlier in the day. While he'd hoped time would heal the pesky granuloma located just about his vocal cord, vocal rest did little to alleviate his symptoms.

"I should be frustrated but I can't seem to stop thinking about beautiful things," Mayer wrote. "I never thought I'd be wishing I could do what I love again; I stay in at night, picking guitar parts off of records and dreaming of playing on the big stage."

Although the singer has been ordered to rest his voice for a month, he has plenty to look forward to. He's nearly finished recording his fifth studio album, 'Born and Raised,' and once it's ready, Mayer will surely find himself back on the road, playing to packed houses.

"The only difference between now and when I was 18 is that now I have this beautiful, meaningful record waiting for me when I can sing it," he wrote.

Smoking Ciggarets, or Cocaine, can do that to your throat. Hope he gets better, but he is an idiot, for what he is saying now about women, not cool John! GIGI.

How many artists recently have had throat problems? Learn how to sing properly and you won't have throat problems. I have never heard of Johnny Mathis, Josh Groban, Andrea Bocelli or Tony Bennett having throat problems. It's because they don't sing with their throats

Yep, just like Ashton K & Justin T. They're like male versions of Madonna.

John, ignore all those mean comments. I have been praying for you everyday and am glad you are able
to use this time to create something beautiful. Your music means so much to me I couldn't even attempt to express it, except to thank you for all you have given us so far. I look forward to the new CD and seeing you back on tour. I know you will be more amazing than ever. God Bless You and give you a speedy recovery!

Speedy recovery. Perhaps this journey will teach him to appreciate what is important..health, family, friends. And maybe he will keep his mouth shut when he should. In the beginning of his career he was quite endearing. Now? Bafoon about covers it. Speedy recovery, and pay attention!

I wish him well...but I don't care for him anymore. When a man talks about his intimate partners as this guy did it just proves he's completely unsure of himself and he has to talk about it like a school boy...lost all respect for him...as a man...a real man would NOT do that...put his cd's in the garbage...too many great artists out there too listen and support a butthead!
