PEOPLE magazine is reporting that the on-again/off-again couple are most definitely off-again, blaming their busy schedules and long distances for the split. "They'd been long distance for a long time and it's just been hard," a source tells PEOPLE. "They both tried to make it work, but their careers kept them apart. So for now it's over. They think this is what's best. They're definitely going to stay friends."
News of the split may come as a surprise to fans -- after all, many thought Nicole and Lewis were heading down the aisle, not for a breakup. Just this past summer, engagement rumors reached such a fever pitch, the then-couple felt the need to take to Twitter to clear things up. "Lewis and I woke up this morning and read we were engaged! Sorry to disappoint u all but its not true:)," Scherzinger Tweeted at the time.
Heartache has most definitely been on Nicole's mind as of late. Just last week, the singer dropped the video 'Try With Me,' off of her upcoming solo debut album, 'Killer Love.' In the song, Nicole waxes poetic about finding love after a break-up and taking chances on a new guy. Fingers crossed that the song's positive outlook will help lift Nicole's spirit during this tough time.
