On This Day in Pop Music History ...

Before Maroon 5 had 'Moves Like Jagger,' the original, Mick, was showing off his for the first time ever on 'The Ed Sullivan Show' today. Yep, those Rolling Stones from London took America by storm during their debut appearance on the iconic primetime show on October 25, 1964. The band was booked on 'Sullivan' to promote their third album, '12 X 5,' and kicked off their performance with the hit, 'Around & Around.' After Mick sang his last note, the crowd was in such hysterics, Ed Sullivan himself had to repeatedly demand they be "QUIET!" so he could announce the next act. The Stones came back for an encore at the end of the show and performed the now-classic, 'Time Is on My Side.' Despite the obviously popularity of the band, something about them rubbed Sullivan the wrong way. Ed reportedly was heard saying, "I promise you they'll never be back on our show. It took me 17 years to build this show and I'm not going to have it destroyed in a matter of weeks!" However, the show's host must have had a change of heart (once he saw the ratings), because the Stones ended up appearing on 'Sullivan' six more times in their career!
