The rise of 'American Idol' and YouTube have made cover songs such an indelible part of modern pop culture. These days, we hardly blink when Wilco's Jeff Tweedy sings Black Eyed Peas or punk icon Ted Leo takes on Kelly Clarkson. Lady Gaga's canon has provided particularly good fodder for crazy covers -- 'Bad Romance' alone has seen versions by everyone from 30 Seconds to Mars and Lissie to Courtney Love and a Marine Corp unit in Afghanistan -- not to mention the countless uploaded efforts from her army of little monsters.
And yet, this rendition by a group of Chinese senior citizens on a reality singing show on Hunan TV is pretty freaking eye-popping. We dare say it could be the most memorable cover of 'Bad Romance' ever! The choreographed retirees even sing part of the song in a giant dollhouse set because, well, who knows? We don't speak Changsha. But you don't need to understand the words to recognize that, in this case, it's not bad meaning bad, but bad meaning good!
