Adam Lambert: Queen Frontman to Be?

After hitting the stage for a live collaboration with legendary rock band Queen at last month's MTV EMAs, 'American Idol' star Adam Lambert is reportedly in talks to become the band's new frontman!

Queen rockers Brian May and Roger Taylor have been on the hunt for the next Freddie Mercury to tour with the band and it looks like they may have found their man. Before they teamed up to perform a medley of Queen hits at the 2011 EMAs, May and Taylor joined Lambert for a performance on the 2009 'American Idol' season finale. Will the guys go at again, this time with Adam as their official lead singer?

Drummer Taylor admits he's a big fan of the pop star. He tells Billboard, "He has grown into a really great performer with an astonishing voice with a range that's great. We would like to work with him again. There's nothing signed just yet but we're talking about live dates. It could be very exciting."

Original frontman Mercury passed away in 1991 and Paul Rodgers took on lead singer duties from 2004 to 2009 in a new incarnation of the band called Queen + Paul Rodgers. Lambert's name wasn't the only current pop star the band has thrown around for the lead singer gig. Back in October, May revealed that he was discussing the position with Lady Gaga!

There will never be one like Freddy, he was one of a kind. He was just as sweet as his vocals & is very missed by so many. I often wonder how far up he could have gone without all the crap about him being gay. He'd no doubt have a bigger fan base in this day & age then he did back in the day. God bless you Freddy, always.

Adam Lambert is not trying to be dead on the sound of Freddy Mercury. Queen chose him to perform with them because he stands on his own with (as many people have commented after hearing him) one of the best voices in the business today.

Next best thing to Freddy Mercury. Just watch his performance on MTV at the EMAs--he did Freddy proud.

Sekinu2:

They don't want a Freddie replacement, they want someone who can do justice to the music and carry it with power & musicality in their own style, not Freddie's. That's Adam Lambert. However, Marc Martel is absolutely perfect to head the Queen Extravaganza because he sounds just like Freddie.

the way this article is written it is making it sound like that Adam will front Queen on a permanent basis not true. It would be for a mini-tour or collaboration not ongoing. See how these rumors take on a life of their own. Please correct your article.

Don't get upset this article is not accurate. They are in talks of a mini-tour with Queen band Brian and Roger. Marc is going to be one of three singers for the Queen Extravaganza two completely separate events with completely different players. If Adam decides to front Queen for a few concerts that's all it will be as he has his own career as a solo artist. BTW Adam isn't a horrible idea he's the talk of every newspaper and blog in almost all countries with not one expert thinking like you.

The Truth

Marc Martel is a TRIBUTE singer. He does note for note impressions of Mercury, and only Somebody To Love is impressive- he is probably going to win the Queen Extravaganza- the competition for a Queen tribute band. Lambert is only going to go out on a hanful of dates, if that- he has a sophmore album being released next year.. Lambert is the ONLY singer who can even compare to Mercury's range- he';s THAT good. Taylor calls his range unmatched and May says his voice turns him to jelly. Pretty high praise from two people who know what a great singer sounds like :)
