As Demi Lovato's road to recovery continues, more secrets from her troubled past continue to emerge. In the latest issue of Seventeen magazine, Lovato finally admits to previously refuted reports of drug and alcohol abuse and sheds light on the role her fellow famous friends' -- Miley Cyrus and Selena Gomez -- play in her life.

At 18, Demi was admitted into treatment for issues including anorexia, bulimia, cutting and depression. Under doctor care, she was also diagnosed with bi-polar disorder. Now 19, Demi has been very vocal about her personal struggles in a bid to help other troubled teens. But until an interview in the latest episode of Seventeen magazine, Lovato has never confirmed rumors that she was abusing drugs and alcohol as well.

"I'm not gonna lie. I was self-medicating. I was doing things like drinking and using [drugs], like a lot of teens do to numb their pain," Lovato admitted. "[But now] I don't drink, I don't do drugs, I don't throw up after my meals, I don't starve myself. There's nothing that I do that I feel ashamed of," the singer insisted.

Demi credits two of her fellow former Disney child stars with helping her though the tough time in her life. "There were two people [there for me]. No matter how many times we fight, we will always be in each others' lives. [Miley and I] are very strong-headed, so when we fight, it's brutal and we're like, 'We're never going to be friends again!' Then two days later, we're like, 'I love you and I miss you!'" Demi explained of her tempestuous bond with Miley Cyrus, 19.

Demi also named Selena Gomez among her closest BFFs. "Selena Gomez and I, we never fight. She's not a confrontational person at all. Both of them will never leave my life no matter what happens, because we've been through so much together."

Considering all of the APA's illnesses are simply voted upon, and many psychiatrists are very quick to sell faith in their drugs is disturbing for it is a contradictory message as if their drugs are clean, and others are dirty. medicine24h.com

I am only aware of the names of the individuals based on their media coverage, read the story and an aspect of it I find a bit concerning. The APA terminology, of self medication and accepting bi-polar disorder in their field of thought essentially implies that a probability of exchanging one set of 'drugs' for the American Psychological Associations set of 'drugs' is a probability. Considering all of the APA's illnesses are simply voted upon, and many psychiatrists are very quick to sell faith in their drugs is disturbing for it is a contradictory message as if their drugs are clean, and others are dirty. The Citizen's Commision for Human Rights, aka CCHR, has a pluthera of information on the dangers of placing your faith in the drugs of psychiatry. First hand experinece within the psychiatric industry and how their patients are often alienated as more or less lab rats is something I would strongly caution. CCHR is a watchdog group that is opposed to a historically corrupt organization, the APA. Besides, it is not so much what you do it is why you do it, and ethanol is not a tool of the devil. The emotional human pains have more to do with ineffective communication and estranged emotional relationships. No drug can treat those symptoms. The key to maintaining sanity is in the definition, and adjusting expectations will set you free. There is not even a scientific method followed to diagnose a 'chemical imbalance in the brain' ... Five people attack me with what I need to learn at the same time, and I spit back out five sentences in relation to the person history between me and each of the five people. Each of the character assaults individually responded to, only one of five sentences would each attacker understand. That does not make someone bi-polar. When a person who is diagnosed bi-polar realizes that people love to fight, and not get along, and adopts patience in life, the condition does not exist.

Actually the condition DOES exist. If you don't think Bipolar "don't real" then you have to pretty much say things like diabetes and Cancer and general sickness "don't real" . Learn a thing or two about emotional science.

many people you pass on the streets and see in the mall and supermarkets have drug problems . some drugs are prescriptionothers may be illicit drugs . the spotlight shines on celebs which doesnt aid in rehab or recovery. it's heartbreaking to see the waste of humanity by drugs and alcohol. it's been said that drug and alcohol use is symptomatic or deep seated issues. im 18 years alcohol and drug free thanks to hearing tragic stories in the rooms of aa.

Disney should really screen their people before they hire them. No matter how talented, if the person/child has issues then they shouldn't be hired because they'll wind up like the typical drugs, drinking, etc. problem.

The big question is who was she getting the drugs and alcohol from? When are they going to pass a law to prosecute the user not just the supplier? Both actions are illegal!

It seems like everyone's ignoring the fact that she was diagnosed with BPD. I'm sure a large part of her screwing up had to do with having bi-polar disorder. Hopefully they'll continue to treat her and she can stay off the drugs and alcohol.

In the warpped entertainment world, using drug and going to rehab seems to be a badge of honor and the pre-requisite to become a role model for the young people. What a strang world we live in!
