Earlier today (Jan. 5) AOL Music reported that Katy Perry was planning on making her first public appearance since news of her divorce from Russell Brand broke. And now, Katy's own parents have stepped into the spotlight to speak about their daughter.

In a church outside of Cleveland, Ohio yesterday (Jan. 4), PEOPLE Magazine reports that Katy's parent's Keith and Mary Hudson spoke openly about their daughter as they hosted "prophetic services" at the Church on the Rise. "I'm sure that Katy's trending on the Internet was to get you here to church tonight," Mary told the crowd -- referencing Perry's prominence in Google search terms since her split with Russell was confirmed.

"What has taken place in my daughter's life has opened many opportunities to go in and be with guarded and gated people," Katy's father later said in his sermon. "They like us because we're cool. We are not threatening."

Despite reports that Perry was fearful of her religious parent's reaction to her impending divorce, from the sounds of it, both Mary and Keith will always stand by their daughter. "The most important people on this Earth are your family," shared Keith. "What would heaven be like without your children? I love my daughter and I will always love her."
