Jennifer Hudson, Photoshop Drama: Singer Angered Over Pre-Weight Loss Album Cover Retouching

It's no secret that Jennifer Hudson is proud of her newly slimmed-down body. The Weight Watchers spokesperson has shared her inspiring success story with her fans and the world after shedding over 80 pounds off her frame.

But the singer/actress has recently revealed that she was left livid when her record label ordered the dramatic retouching of her fuller figure on the cover of her debut album.

Hudson claimed label retouchers photoshopped her figure so drastically on the cover of her self-titled debut, that she looked as slim in the 2008 finished photo as she does now, 80 pounds lighter! The singer claims the digital manipulation was done without her permission.

Hudson recalled the first time she saw the album cover in an interview with Dateline, admitting, "It was like, 'Where is the rest of me?' They photoshopped me probably to the size I am now on that cover, but we all know I was nowhere near that. Why would you photoshop that?"

Not only was Hudson personally insulted, she thought the retouched image sent the wrong message to her fans. "To me it did not send out a good message. It did not represent me," she revealed. "Did I not just prove that talent is enough -- if I made it this far being who I am, being the size I am, the image that I am?" she asked.

What do you think of the celebrity Photoshop trend? Has the digital re-imaging gone too far? Leave your comments below.

She is a wonderful person, adn i don't blame her for being upset .. She is not just a piece of meat she is a human being. Unfortunatley these days in American values are so phoney, anything goes to make a buck ...

Jennifer is right. Those editors are re-writing history without her permission and diluting a success story of "talent trumps size"

So What ??? Some albums don't even have the performing artists picture on them at all but the artist still gets paid. She is a spoiled brat crying for attention..

I agree with Jennifer... her pure talent and drive has gotten her where she is today. Her body size nor her current weight loss had anything to do with her talent. Shame on the person or people who made the decision to photoshop her picture on her debut album cover especially since they didn't not even ask for her input!

I think people are confusing Jennifer Hudson with other abrasive AI contestents. She was never nasty or out of line. She was just not the one picked as the winner and became a winner in her own right. You go girl!

I saw Jennifer Hudson live in 2008 on Regis and Kelly. She was wearing a short dress and was very voluptuous and falling out all over the place. She sang incredibly and looked fantastic. She was heavy but very hot and talented. I was thinking "how confident she must be wearing that dress at her weight". She has made a full transformation and is just as beautiful heavier as she is slimmer. It is much healthy for her and I applaud her. She is magnificent any way. If there is a need to photo shop her and others they are missing the essence of who a person is. It is sad that we can only see beauty in terms of thin vs fat. Beauty comes from within thin or fat. It is just healthier and easier on your body to be fit and trim. You can be very thin and very unfit as well. Haven't you had friends who eat every junk food and are skinny and you are jealous as you sit with your low fat cottage cheese at lunch? Get real people. Love people for who they are first.

There is a subtle difference between making it on your talent alone and making a big deal about same..for those of you who remember her from AI, she was verbally abusive to the judges, was downright unsportsmanlike when she was eliminated and many of her performances at the beginning of the Idol tour were lackluster, ie only going through the motions. In other words she had a distinct chip on her shoulder. Perhaps she has learned some humbleness since. Yes they photoshopped her first album cover and yes ,perhaps they should have consulted her, but they didn't have to. It was their dime on the line and if that cover helped sell more albums, that made more money for them as well as Hudson. Winning an Oscar her first time out as an "actress" was, in my opinion, an insult to those actors who have spent years crafting their trade without such recognition.

Oh, come on! "Photoshoppin'" probably happens on about 90% of every single "published" picture we see. I don't think the record company was being "malicious", or anything. And, YES ... Jennifer should have been consulted beforehand! But, I don't think this caused any harm. Personally, I would appreciate my pictures being "'shopped" if they were going to adorn the cover of something that would be around for the next 100, 500 ... 10,000 years! When someone digs "beneath the planet of the apes" and un-earths a copy of one of my albums a couple of centuries from now, I want them to say "Wow, the 'Dawg was a good lookin' dude ... and he sounded pretty good, too" (if there's any way they can "play" it then), LoL!
I understand the VERY hard work she has put into reaching the point where her body looks like the photoshopped pic! I also understand that she doesn't want the message out there that it is easy getting to this point, and that she may not want to send the message that she was "ashamed" of how she looked (she may have been ashamed or she may not have cared at all)! It IS her body, her picture, and ... she should have been consulted on which way to proceed with that picture.
