Days after Russell Brand's announcement that he and Katy were ending their 14-month marriage, moving vans were spotted at the estranged couple's Hollywood home and rumors of Russell's sex addiction and non-supportive attitude towards Katy's career hit the web. Amid the chaos, Katy's fans rejoiced when it was announced that the pop star was refusing to let her impending divorce keep her from her planned commitments and public appearances.
It was even reported that Russell was unceremoniously uninvited from the People's Choice Awards by its organizers in a bid to avoid awkwardness and drama during Katy's time to shine.
But just days after the announcement that Katy would attend the star-studded ceremony, where she is up for five awards, Perry has pulled out of the event. "Unfortunately I will not be able to attend the People's Choice Awards. I want to thank u all for voting for me, fingers crossed!" Katy tweeted today (Jan. 9).
The singer did not give an explanation as to why she will not be attending Wednesday night's show, but we can't say we blame her for wanting to hide out from the paparazzi for a while. In her first statement since the news of the divorce broke the pop star insisted, "Concerning the gossip, I want to be clear that NO ONE speaks for me. Not a blog, magazine, 'close sources' or my family."
