Kelly Clarkson, National Anthem: Singer Will Perform at Super Bowl XLVI

Kelly Clarkson Super BowlHarper Smith

As reported by The Boot, it may be the most coveted live TV performance gig of the year, and for 2012 the spotlight will belong to Kelly Clarkson. The superstar has been tapped to perform the national anthem at this year's Super Bowl in Indianapolis.

Kelly will be a part of an all-star mix of country and rock artists who have been invited to perform for what will undoubtedly be the most-watched sporting event of 2012. She will follow her buddies Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert, who will sing a duet of 'America the Beautiful' prior to kick-off.

Pop icon Madonna will take the stage for the Super Bowl's halftime show. She will be joined by M.I.A. and Nicki Minaj for a special collaboration on her new single, 'Give Me All Your Love.'

The Super Bowl isn't the only chance Kelly will have to hang out with Mr. and Mrs. Shelton. The 'Since U Been Gone' singer will most likely spend time with the reigning CMA Male and Female Vocalists of the Year on the set of 'The Voice,' where she is rumored to serve as a mentor on Blake's team. Miranda will also mentor Team Blake during the show's second season. 'The Voice' premieres immediately after the Super Bowl.

Super Bowl XLVI will air live from the Pan Am Plaza in Indianapolis on Feb. 5 at 6:00 PM ET on NBC.

Agree with everyone about the oversinging. I like Kelly and hope she goes simple. When you have time, check out Clay Aiken's version at the World Series several years back. Very beautiful and not over sung at all!

So glad to have a real singer doing the national anthem.

Note to Kelly:

Please no extra riffs or screamy high notes, your beautiful voice is plenty enough, the anthem is about the simplicity of truth, honesty and loyalty.

I would love just once to hear the National Anthem sung and played by people who feel it in their hearts and not as a way to sell a new album....how about the Military Band with their vocal group. Our National Anthem always ends up the butt of some joke after being sung by some idiot who can't remember the words or someone who changes it vocally until you can't recognize it. I will not be watching this half-time performance. The sponsors who pay all that money for ad space will not be selling me anything.

I couldn't doesagree with you more. We are the only nation that always in some way has to mess up the National Anthem and it makes me sick . It should be sung with respect.and the way it was meant to be sung and maybe then People will start singing along again like we used to....Please stop changing it into a Rap song .

That officially makes the music for this year's Super Bowl event a complete washout for me. I've never particularly liked Madonna and I'm fed up with hearing our National Anthem butchered by over-hyped, over-produced, manufactured pop "singers". I'd rather hear the crowd sing it to an instrumental recording.

No matter where one looks these days, the bad mouth crowd have a representative there spewing criticism and poor taste. Please listen to the words of the National Anthem and hear how off color your attitude is. If Kelly does a lousy job, or if Ron Paul proves to be less than what is worthy, let "time" and "faulty deed" be the deciders, OK?

She's a great singer. Let's hope her rendition of the Stars Spangled Banner is something we can recognize rather than others in the past who have either mangled the song or jazzed it up.

Come on, an orchestral rendetion without any singer would be fine. I am tired of singers "putting their personal touches" on the national song.

GROSS!!!!! This is the bimbo that says she loves Ron Paul for president?!?! She admits she never even knew of his terrible statements & beliefs & writings in past years. Give me Christian Aguillera any day, even if she forgets the words! Kelly go away & stay there.
