Saturday Night Live: Lana Del Rey Isn't the Only Singer to Die on 'SNL'

Internet-star-turned-major-label-artist Lana Del Rey bombed badly on 'Saturday Night Live' this past weekend (Jan. 14, 2012), but what does that really mean for the self-proclaimed "gangsta Nancy Sinatra"?

A good showing on the long-running sketch program can be good for some buzz -- or, in Lady Gaga's case, evidence she could actually sing -- but it's a terrible indicator of future success. Some performers who committed sins far worse than Del Rey's awkward warbling, hair flipping and deer-in-headlights stare subsequently went on to massive fame.

So take heart, Lana, you're not the first to die on 'Saturday Night Live' and you won't be the last. Here are 12 artists who had their own epic fail while performing live from New York -- and you might be surprised about the impact it had on their careers.

She did OK and the audience liked her . She definitely didn't "die" as the article suggested.

True, she could have been more animated. I liked the song though and her voice.

Although she is beautiful, I am sorry to say that she reminded me of my daughter holding her hairbrush and singing while she admired herself in the mirror as a teen! Lol! Awful song choice and difficult to understand her mumbled words. Not much stage presence either. If she were to audition on American Idol, three "no's" from the judges for sure. Still, very pretty and maybe she should consider modeling instead of singing.

I remember when Faith no more was on and the singer was high off his butt. That and Jesus Jones were probably the worse i remember seeing. Truthfully, about 90% of what they bring on to SNL ive never heard of before at all....like Lana Del Rey

That was not horrible at all. She sang the song beautifuly and did not have any stage fight. Just because she is not running around screaming on the stage does not mean that something is wrong with her performance. She did an excellent job.

Shame on the author of the article who said otherwise.

Obviously the author of this article ( Sarah Kurchak) has no idea what she is talking about when it comes to musical performances. There was nothing wrong at all with Lana Del Rey's performance. I thought the song was very original and good. And I didn't see any "deer in the headlights" look, like Sarah describes. I think she is just jealous of Lana for some reason or other.
