Many celebrities tweet about what they're eating for lunch or try to get all philosophical on their followers. But some stars use Twitter to help good causes. Over the weekend, Justin Bieber proved he belongs to the latter group.

Last week, the Ottawa Citizen reported that Hélène Campbell, a 20-year-old local woman wanted to raise awareness about organ donation. Campbell herself suffers from idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis and needs a lung transplant. For months now, she's been blogging about her experience on A Lung Story- Help Breathe.

She decided to start an awareness campaign on Twitter through her @ALungStory account and hoped that Bieber would help her promote the cause. Campbell asked users of the popular social media network to tweet the Canadian pop star with the hashtag #BeAnOrganDonor.

"I would hope that Justin Bieber would do a retweet or even just tweet something himself," she told Metro Ottawa.

Lo and behold, Bieber tweeted about the awareness campaign just a few days later. He wrote: "@alungstory i got the word....you have amazing strength. i got u. #BeAnOrganDonor"
The 17-year-old singer continued to interact with Campbell via Twitter over the weekend. He tweeted: "@alungstory glad to be able to help. best part of what i do"

It looks like all the Twitter buzz is working. According to the Ottawa Citizen, since Friday more than 500 people registered on beadonor.ca, a website by the Ontario-based organ and tissue donation agency Trillium Gift of Life Network. The website also received thousands of visits over the weekend.

Campbell posted a video on Saturday thanking Bieber and all of those who tweeted.

"Hey Justin," she said. "Thanks so much for using your Canadian voice to help us raise awareness about the importance of organ donation and giving blood. We've all learned to never say never."

On behalf of all the lucky people who have received organ transplants from cadaver and non-related donors, I want to acknowledge your support for organ donation.

You are kind, caring and aware of using your celebrity as a platform to support worthy causes --and that shows maturity well beyond your years.

So now a 50 pluser has BIEBER FEVER. Rock on!

Cheers, Justin
