Kidz Bop 21: How the Kiddie Cover Song Franchise Makes Pop Stars Like LMFAO + Katy Perry Child-Safe

Kidz BopRazor & Tie

'Kidz Bop 21' debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 albums chart this week, which means that only Adele's unstoppable album, also called '21,' has sold more copies in the past week than a compilation album that features prepubescent session musicians singing today's biggest hits.

For the uninitiated, Kidz Bop is like a modern take on the Mini Pops. Using a revolving collection of young performers, the Kidz Bop empire has been recording family-friendly versions of Top 40 songs since 2001. Over the past 11 years (and 21 albums, plus various compilations) Kidz Bop has kidzified everyone from Britney, Beyonce and the Black Eyed Peas to Nickelback and Finger Eleven. They even caused a minor sensation a few years ago when they released a surprisingly impressive take on indie rock heroes Modest Mouse's 'Float On.'

To get to the bottom of this phenomenon, we here at AOL Music studied 'Kidz Bop 21' in detail and used a very, uh, scientific process to determine just how kidzified these revamps actually are.
