Adam Levine, Gay Rights Advocate: Singer Boycotts Restaurant Over Stance on Controversial Issue

Adam Levine is known for being outspoken about his beliefs when it comes to socio-political topics. The Maroon 5 frontman previously made headlines when he attacked conservative media giant Fox News for playing his band's music on one of the "evil f---ing" station's programs.

Now, the gay rights activist is making his equality crusade even more personal, by staging a boycott of his favorite restaurant in response to its owners' position on same-sex marriage. Come this February 12, Adam and his fellow Maroon 5 bandmates will abandon their usual post-Grammy Awards ritual of celebrating at the Mexican restaurant, after learning the owner's of the unnamed Los Angeles hotspot were among those championing Proposition 8, the bill that made gay marriage in California illegal.

Maroon 5 is nominated for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance at the upcoming awards ceremony, but will be looking for a new place to get their party on after the big event. Levine told People magazine, "We used to go to this Mexican restaurant to celebrate after the Grammys but the place supported the movement to make gay marriage illegal [in California] so we bailed on that."

Levine has a long history of using the power of his celebrity to draw attention to the issue of gay rights. The singer, whose brother is openly gay, has lent his famous face to publicize the It Gets Better campaign in support of troubled LGBT youth and the Prop 8 opposition campaign No H8.

Wow ... such vitriol from the crowd here ... hatred is alive and kicking in our declining U.S.A. All of you should be so proud of yourselves and your "Christian" values. Bravo.

I'd boycott Moron 5 if their music wasn't such vile trash that it didn't cause my CD player to puke it out with rage.

"...movement to make gay marriage illegal." It was never legal to begin with. It's ALWAYS been illegal. Such haters, these homosexualists.

I support the restaurant owner in this; if I lived in NYC, I'd eat at this place to show my support. Civil unions are for homosexuals; marriage is between a man and a woman. Listening to homosexuals whine about this is getting quite boring.

Good for the restaurant owner; if I lived in New York I eat there to support him. Nothing wrong with civil unions for homosexuals; but marriage is between a man and woman. Listening to homosexuals whine about this issue became boring a long time ago.

Yes, they intimidated the owner, protested out front... a family & friendship hangout. The owner, btw, is an old kind lady. Oh and btw... place is always busy!

Adam is entitled to his own opinion. He never mentioned the name of the resturant because he has respect for individuals. The owner of the restaurant can express and hold their own personal opinion. However if they supported something like forbidding inter racial marriage what would you think? Reality check…..We must accept everyone. A truly enlighten and secure individual accept all and embraces differences.

Your compassion is misplaced. What do you mean we MUST ACCEPT? Why won't he just ACCEPT what has always been accepted as normal rather than turn normality upside down? Why won't he ACCEPT that inter-racial marriage is between a man and a woman. There is NO difference between a white man and a black man. There ARE differences between men and women. "Same sex marriage" doesn't even make biological sense. They can do whatever they want in their bedrooms; just keep your bedrooms out of full frontal societal assault.

If I want to marry another man....I should have the same rights as any other American. You DO NOT have the right to tell me different. How would me marrying a man affect you?
