Richard Marx: 'The One That Got Away' (Katy Perry Cover) Song of the Day

If Katy Perry needs a smile since her split from hubby Russell Brand, may we suggest she take a listen to 80s/90s pop icon Richard Marx's new cover of her hit 'The One That Got Away.' The 'Don't Mean Nothing' singer puts his own unique spin on the tune, and we gotta say, he definitely made the song his own!

"I'm not really a 'covers' kind of guy, but I was listening to KP's album in my car and kept playing this song over and over," Richard tells AOL Music. "The production is perfect for Katy. Max Martin always nails it. But I also felt there was another approach that would be show off the song itself a bit more. So I went into my studio and did this ... wrote a string chart ... but kept production very limited. Plus ... I was bored that day!"

Richard's boring day ended up being our gain! Take a listen to his cover of 'The One That Got Away' and tell us what you think of the Marx-ized version.

Richard's version adds so much more depth to the song. I agree with Tracy - so much more haunting and heartbreaking then KP's. I guess to can't beat the master.

Hte katy perry love the richard marx version, just goes to show its always the singer not the song that sells. Anyone can sing anything and make it beautiful.
