Selena Gomez Cosmopolitan Cover: Singer Too Young for Racy Spread? (PHOTOS)

19-year-old Selena Gomez is the latest starlette to grace the cover of the controversial U.S. women's magazine Cosmopolitan. The singer, actress and girlfriend of Justin Bieber provocatively posed for the upcoming March 2012 issue of the publication, and has raised some eyebrows in the process.

In the outtakes and approved cover that was leaked earlier this month, the Disney teen queen is seen posing in cleavage-baring outfits next to bold-faced headlines including "50 Sex Tips" and "Your Orgasm Guaranteed." Inside the magazine, the caption "Yup, she looks all grown up to us" runs alongside another photo of Selena, perhaps reflecting what the singer/actress is trying to convey to her new fan base.

However, a good number of Selena's loyal fans are still Disney-Channel age, leading many to take issue with the star's choice to pose in such a racy publication.

One person leading the protest against Gomez's Cosmopolitan cover is model and actress Nicole Weider. "The tips in Cosmo are completely graphic and explicit -- things that are only meant for a porn movie. It encourages girls to have sex at an early age and to sleep around and have casual sex with multiple partners," Weider tells OneNewsNow. Nicole is so upset by Selena's risque photos that she's started an online petition demanding that the mag be sold in non-transparent wrappers and only to customers 18 years old and over.

The questionable Selena spread follows controversy surrounding fellow actress Dakota Fanning's cover for the publication's latest issue. The 17-year-old came under fire for posing alongside similar sexually explicit headlines like, "His Best Sex Ever" and "Too Naughty to Say Here!"

In addition to the belly and cleavage-baring images, Selena is letting the world know she's all grown up by talking all about her love life in the interview with Cosmo. The singer has been dating Justin Bieber, 17, for the past year, and admits she is head-over-heels in love! "I'm just like every 19-year-old girl. If you're in love, you're in love to the fullest, and you just want to go to the movies, hang out, and be as normal as possible. I'm fortunate that I've found someone who has that philosophy."

"[Love] is the most powerful thing," Gomez continued, "When it comes to my family, friends, a relationship ... it centers me. You only live once, and I want to be proud of everything that I do and just have fun. I want to be able to say that I had a really fulfilled, fun life." But while Bieber is helping her to feel fulfilled these days, there was a certain unnamed ex-flame who did the exact opposite.

"I was in a relationship previously where I had to hide everything and it wasn't my choice. I had to go through different exits and take separate cars and do the craziest things, and it just really wasn't worth it," Selena revealed. "It was like a year of my life completely wasted," she insisted.

While the singer remained mum on the controlling ex-boyfriend's identity, celebrity gossip experts say its Jonas Brother Nick Jonas. The pair dated in 2008, split, and reunited briefly in 2009.

I dont think theres anything racy about the pictures, I think she looks beautiful and they look fine for a 19/20 year old. My problem is with cosmo putting these young girls on the cover with bold statements about sex near their heads. And why did they have to choose a pic with her legs open for the cover?

selena is absolutely beautiful, and i know she wants to convey a different fan base of perhaps older people, but this isn't the way to do it. It's a different time period, and they're not exactly blaming selena for what she's wearing, but she is posing with her legs open, and she's on the cover of a sex magazine. If my child (who loves selena gomez) saw this, she would ask me to buy it because it has selena on it, but i could not let my daughter buy it because of what the magazine suggests. beautiful pictures, wrong magazine.

Thats racy? i dress like that all the time give me a break. Victoria secret has girls her age wearing much much less but no one complains about that. Just bc shes on disney doesnt mean anything, shes 19 yrs old.

when you watch the super bowl sunday look to see how much sex is used to sell everything from beer to bagels. If you were going to sell a magazine to hip young women are you going to put on the cover Rosie O'Donnell ? The answer is no. I'd rather look at her than a naked pregnant celebrity!!

What a bunch of hipercrites, there are lingeria models that wear wear wayyyyyyyyy less than she has on and pose wayyyyyy more provacatively. Also, when Tom Cruise married Katy she was only a few years older the Selena. Stop acting as if she's sweet 16, she is a young lady that earns more money that we can dream of. Key word, lady!!!!!!!

She's 19 years old! I see NOTHTING wrong with the pictures. The fact that she was a Disney star doens't mean that she can't grow up.
