Selena Gomez Dating Past: Singer Admits She Wasted a Year on Ex-Boyfriend

It's hard to remember a time when Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber weren't walking hand-in-hand down the red carpet, or indulging in major PDA on a Hawaiian beach vacation. But it was just over a year ago that Sel was single and still reeling from a particularly bad split. It was that painful time that Selena decided to open up about during a recent interview with Cosmopolitan magazine.

The women's magazine's latest controversial cover girl spoke candidly about both her current and past romantic relationships. In case you were wondering, things are going swimmingly with The Biebs -- he just gets it!

"I'm just like every 19-year-old girl. If you're in love, you're in love to the fullest, and you just want to go to the movies, hang out, and be as normal as possible. I'm fortunate that I've found someone who has that philosophy," Gomez gushed about her boo after a year of dating.

"[Love] is the most powerful thing," the singer/actress continued, "When it comes to my family, friends, a relationship ... it centers me. You only live once, and I want to be proud of everything that I do and just have fun. I want to be able to say that I had a really fulfilled, fun life." Apparently, Bieber is helping Selena find her happy place.

But as the interview continued, the 19 year old remembered a less-than-fun-and-fulfilled time that she lived to regret with an unnamed ex-boyfriend. "I was in a relationship previously where I had to hide everything and it wasn't my choice. I had to go through different exits and take separate cars and do the craziest things, and it just really wasn't worth it," Selenita revealed. "It was like a year of my life completely wasted," she added.

The admission follows a similar statement from August 2011 about seemingly the same relationship. Back then Selena revealed to Top of the Pops Magazine, "I wasn't myself for a year. I think that was really damaging. I felt like it was me who was always trying to be perfect for him. Everyone around me hated him but I didn't listen. I think I had to go through it because now I'm the strongest I've been. I dare someone to try and change me again."

So who could the controlling pre-Bieber boyfriend from Sel's past be? Celeb gossip experts say it's youngest Jonas Brother Nick Jonas, 19. Back in 2008, Selena dated, then was dumped by, the youngest JoBro. Over a year later, Nick won Selena back, only to watch the relationship fizzle again after a few months.
