Justin Bieber: Mom Pattie Mallette Fights to Save Shelter for Pregnant Teens

Justin Bieber was born 18 years ago tomorrow (March 1), and as the singer gets ready to celebrate his big birthday, his mom Pattie Mallette is fighting to keep the shelter she called home while pregnant with the pop prodigy from shutting down.

The Salvation Army's Bethesda Center in London, Ontario became a place of refuge for Justin's mom when she was a pregnant and frightened 17-year-old. Mallette is so greatful to the shelter, which supports pregnant teens and young moms, that she has joined a campaign to keep it up and running.

After Salvation Army bosses announced their plans to shut the 54-year-old shelter down as a cost-cutting measure earlier this month (Feb.), Mallette and other supporters launched a Facebook campaign, Save Bethesda, to urge officials to reconsider.

Bieber was born on March 1, 1994 at the St. Joseph's Hospital in London, Ontario, and was raised in nearby Stratford. We're sure it would be quite a meaningful birthday present for Bieber and his family if they could keep the shelter open and help continue to support troubled young moms.

It is so wonderful to see a child help him mother. Mothers are so important. Justin Bieber is starting young by buying himself whatever home he wants, for performing is very hard work and it will be good for him to someday look back and see the results of his hard work. I am very proud of him. Keep up the good work Justin, and always take good care of mom.

All the negative comments; only negative people see or think negative things.

We all need to encourage each other when we see someone trying to live in this world being responsible, loving people. To all negative people - if you cannot say something good about someone, say nothing. Do the thumb quiz (when you are pointing at someone, most of the time your thumb is pointing back at you). Let us encourage people by being concern in a positive way, about them. Let us be constructive by requesting the school system to get prayer back in the schools. If we leave God out - satan the devil will surly come in. We need to love one another as Jesus Christ has commanded us to love.

Happy Birthday Justin. May the Lord bless you with many, many more and keep you safe.

Julie, the word "greatful" is spelt correctly. "Gratefule" was on the band changed it to. Nevertheless, this has nothing do to with Justin Bieber. So, what's your point?????

big stars rarely donate. they just lent their presence to a cause and put a monetary value to that and take a tax break.

And you come by this wisdom how? Is it something that you just know? I wonder ifyou are even aware that many do donate but don't blow theri own horns in doing so. Those are the real heros as far as I am concerned, not the ones that tell the public what good things they have done...that goes for the non-celebs. as well as the celebs.

Maybe they have already donated to the shelter, but need money for the monthly upkeep of the place.

Does ANYBODY edit these stories??? "Greatful"... I don't think so, unless you're in the GRATEFUL DEAD. Try the word "grateful"!!

Well, with your incorrect usage of the word "then" instead of "than" you have made your point. HOWEVER, only a very ignorant publisher would allow "spellcheck" to do the job for exactly the same reason you just mentioned.

If these uber rich stars would donate something to these places to keep them going, it would be huge. But they spend over a million to look good (clothes, hair, makeup and accessories) for 1 night at the Oscars. Or buy a house for 8.5 million instead of 8.6 million, and give that $100k to help the poor. I dont mean charity, but maybe create jobs for people.

It is true that the stars make there money from us but it is there business what they choose to do with it. If they help out the homeless or anyone else. And they can buy as many things with there money as they choose. Don't hate them because they are rich your money make them that away. So suck it up.

A lot of them also pay back, in private, and we don't know of it. Granted many do not give...I wonder how much the poster has donated to charity... As far as I am concerned, they do work for their money and if you don't like it, then do not go to the concerts or buy the music, etc.
