Lady Gaga's ex-boyfriend, heavy metal musician Luc Carl, has opened up about his love with the singer and how it turned into a 'Bad Romance' once she shot to superstardom. In the memoir, entitled 'The Drunk Diet: How I Lost 40 Pounds ... Wasted: A Memoir,' Carl describes why Gaga dumped him after three years together ... just as her career began to take off.

"The break-up with my girlfriend was my rock bottom," Carl confessed. "It took me about a week to realize she was right. I was f---ing miserable, and it wasn't her fault. It was my fault for being a drunk a--hole. I would have left me, too."

Awkwardly running into your ex on the street is one thing, but it's a whole other thing to see your former love all over the TV, in magazines and to hear her on the radio. In fact, Gaga has just made history yet again by becoming first person ever to score 20 million followers on Twitter! So how did Carl cope? "I was happy for her, of course, but I didn't really need my ex shoved down my throat."

According to Life & Style magazine editors, who obtained the excerpt from the book, Carl and Gaga started dating in 2005 and officially split three years later. Gaga, of course, has moved on to find love with a new man, 'Vampire Diaries' star Taylor Kinney. Ironically, the two met on the set of Gaga's 'You and I' music video, while Luc is the "cool Nebraska guy" who served as the inspiration for the tune.

Carl's book hits the shelves March 13.
