UPDATE: After being hospitalized on Thursday morning (March 8), Phillips underwent surgery to have kidney stones removed. He was released that same day in time to appear on 'American Idol' as planned, and seemed to be in good health.

According to TMZ, 'American Idol' top-13 finalist Phillip Phillips has been rushed to a medical facility this morning (March 8) for emergency treatment. Allegedly, the fate of his role in the competition is now in question.

The guitar-toting 21 year old from Leesburg, Ga. most recently wowed 'Idol' judges Jennifer Lopez, Steven Tyler and Randy Jackson with his rendition of Stevie Wonder's 'Superstition,' and already has some viewers betting on his win. But, sources have told TMZ, Phillips was complaining of intense pain in his abdomen and the issue was severe enough to send him to seek treatment.

While the source of the abdominal pain and nature of the medical emergency is unclear, insiders close to Phillip suspect it could be gallstones, something the singer has suffered from in the past and landed him in hospital back in January, according to a source at the Georgia pawn shop where Phillip used to work.

We hope all is well with the 'Idol' hopeful. Get well soon Phillip!
