Ricky Martin Memoir: Pop Star Finds His Own Book Too Painful to Read

As Ricky Martin promoted 'Me,' the 2010 memoir in which he talks candidly about coming to terms with his homosexuality, fans would often gush about how empowering it was. The Puerto Rican pop star will have to take their word for it -- he hasn't read it.

In a recent interview with 'The Advocate,' the 'Livin' La Vida Loca' singer says he hasn't revisited the book, since it brings back painful memories of hiding his sexuality and wrestling with the decision to out himself as gay.

"I had it [the book] open on my computer and I started reading a paragraph and had to stop," he said in the interview. "I had to stop. It reminded me of the place I was when I was writing it."

His reason for undertaking the project, he added, was to "let go of a lot of things I was holding within." Little did he know it would strike such a chord with people in similar situations.

"When I released the book, the people I met doing the in-store signings were like, 'Please allow me to give you a hug,'" he said. "'You have no idea what you've done for me.'"
