Jessica Simpson: 'I Love Lucy'-Inspired TV Show in the Works?

Jessica Simpson is set to become a first-time mom any day now (Really, any day now, Jessica!) -- but that doesn't mean she's slowing down in the career department. After debuting her new fashion competition show 'Fashion Star' earlier this month, Jess is reportedly developing a TV show inspired by the 1950's sitcom 'I Love Lucy!'

TV producer Ben Silverman, the mastermind behind 'Fashion Star,' has high hopes that Jessica will revive the slap-sticky female role made popular by Lucille Ball. According to WENN, Simpson was allegedly heard chatting off the record about the potential project with Silverman during a recent interview with Elle magazine.

"What about that 'I Love Lucy' thing you and I were talking about?" the producer asked Jess. "The sitcom. We really should go to the networks. It could be super funny," he said.

Simpson replied, "Let's develop it." Apparently, Jessica has a twist in mind for the show adding, "But I think it would be good to play myself, a new mom, and not do anything so different that people won't grasp it."

Silverman goes on to sing Jess' praises to Elle, saying, "She is just naturally funny. Jess has such a disarming wit for a beautiful girl, making fun of herself in the most charming way."

Simpson already has one retro-inspired project under her belt. The entertainer took on the role of Daisy Duke in the 2005 film, 'The Dukes of Hazzard.' Do you think Jessica's take on a 'I Love Lucy' type show is a good idea? Tweet us your thoughts @aolmusic!

I actually think it could be a cute show! Jessica Simpson really isn't as dumb as we all once thought she was, thanks to her reality show with Nick Lachey. But she can be funny, and if she doesn't try to do this show as a remake, but as a brand new show INSPIRED by I Love Lucy, I think it could actually work if she does it right!

What we need is shows like Father Knows Best, where the father is not portrayed as a dumb middle class white man who is less intelligent than the wife and kids. You know, real life TV,

She's no Lucy [yes and no]. As Lucy was; Jessica could never achieve that (no one could). If you updated Lucys' styling, Jessica WOULD come closest.
I'm glad that they didn't try for a remake.

She looks better pregnant. Seems like a nice girl, too bad about her skin and weight issues.

Jessica is such a pretty girl and I wish her well. But, it's impossible to imagine her portraying Lucy. I don't understand why anyone would want to try - it's just as silly as all the blondes who try to play Marilyn Monroe. There was only one Marilyn and there's only one Lucy.

Oh God PLEASE NO!!!!!!!!!! Lucille Ball is spinning like crazy in her coffin as we read this. Can't this talentless hack go to some other country and bother them?
