"It's been a very emotional last week," the 21-year-old singer admitted in the seven-minute video farewell. David explained that his decision to become a missionary was "a very personal thing" as he stumbled over his words, getting noticeably choked up about the major life change. "I hope you guys respect that and you guys have, so I appreciate that," he said to his fans.
Archuleta will travel to South America to serve a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, but must first enter a Missionary Training Center in his native Utah to prepare himself for the trip.
"I'm gonna miss being able to talk to all of you, and sharing the weird random things that I'm doing or thinking about," he confessed to his fans fighting back tears before announcing that he still plans to release new music. "I hope you will enjoy the new music that will be coming out, that we've worked hard on," he said.
He ended the emotional message saying, "I'll see you all in two years. God Bless, take care."
