Madonna 'MDNA' Sales Plummet: Album Sets Record for Biggest Sales Drop in Chart History

Madonna is known for making and breaking music records, and such accomplishments are usually cause for celebration. However, the pop icon's latest feat will forever live in infamy -- Madonna's MDNA is on track to set the record for the biggest second-week sales drop in chart history!

According to Forbes, sales for the singer's twelfth studio effort will drop by a staggering 88 percent, from 359,000 copies sold during release week to an estimated 46,000 in its second week. Apparently, the first-week sales numbers were dramatically skewed thanks to CDs sold in packages along with concert tickets for Madonna's upcoming tour.

Forbes contributor Roger Friedman reported "most" of the 359K albums sold were apart of one of these packages, and without them, MDNA would have debuted at No. 2 on the charts.

It seems like it was just a couple of weeks ago we were reporting that Madonna's MDNA debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 Albums chart, becoming the fastest-selling debut of 2012 and earning Madge her eighth chart-topping LP. Oh wait, it was -- and that only makes Madonna's fall from grace all the more dramatic.

That may be the case here in the U.S., but globally speaking, Madonna has already sold 750,000 albums and continues to stay in the Top 5 in numerous countries around the world. This was the case with her last album "Hard Candy", but worldwide it was the 11th biggest album of 2008. Never mind that she's selling out arenas all over the world and is even adding shows to a lot of major cities.

Besides, since when does record sales = quality of an album? It's her 12th album and she can't always release one that sells like "Like A Virgin" here in the U.S., where the charts are full of total crap from 15-year old Disney singers and unmemorable urban/hip-hop-rap crap. I don't get why everybody holds Madonna to a different standard because if it was ANYBODY else, this album would already be deemed a HUGE success, even if it didn't sell one more copy.

So, just to be clear. #1 last week, #8 this week = FAIL? Really? What a JOKE.
