After facing the wrath of swarms of Christian protesters in Seoul, South Korea as she kicked off her Born This Way Ball tour, Lady Gaga will face similar opposition as she gets ready to bring her live show to the conservative Jakarta, Indonesia.
While Christian members of South Korea's Alliance for Sound Culture in Sexuality condemned Mother Monster for promoting "unhealthy sexual culture" through "lewd lyrics and performance," Indonesian Muslims take it a step further. They're more concerned with Gaga's alleged dealings with the devil. As a spokesman for the Islamic Defenders' Front (FPI) told The Wall Street Journal, "Lady Gaga insults all religions. Even Christians in Korea opposed her. She is promoting the worship of Satan."
FPI chairman Rizieq Shihab previously threatened the pop star, telling The Jakarta Post, "If you want chaos in Jakarta, just continue to hold the concert." At press time, Gaga's June 3 show in the nation's capital is still on as scheduled.
The FPI, which boasts thousands of members, is well known for its violent raids on bars, massage parlors and gaming halls. Many Indonesians, including moderate Muslims, have spoken out against the group and called for its disbandment.
