Phillip Phillips Surgery: 'American Idol' Champ Undergoes Kidney Operation

Michael Tran, FilmMagic

LOS ANGELES (AP) - "American Idol" winner Phillip Phillips, who was plagued by serious kidney problems during the singing contest, is recovering from surgery.

A spokeswoman for series producer 19 Entertainment said Thursday that the operation went well for the 21-year-old Phillips. Leslie Fradkin says the singer from Leesburg, Ga., will be ready for the July 6 start of the "American Idol" national concert tour.

The guitar-playing Phillips defeated 16-year-old Jessica Sanchez to become the Fox talent competition's 11th season victor last month.

I rarely watched this year and when I did during the latter part of the season all I saw watch J-Blo lauding Joshua, giving him never-ending praise and standing ovations. She also encouraged Randy and Steven to join in (although I don't think Randy needed much coaxing); I thought judges were supposed to be impartial/unbiased! If J-Blo is a judge next year I'm sure I won't tune in at all. As for P2 winning, good for him, he's a nice young man who battled adversity and reverse-prejudice to win.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery. Wished I had heard him at his best on Idol. I voted 50 times 2nd to last week and 60 times at finale. I like to think I helped Phil win but of course his voice did it all! Can't wait for more of his music to be released.

If they're good they'll get signed eventually you don't have to win it to get a contract, if you're good somebody will find you. So don't get upset when your favorite doesn't make it. Everyone is biased no matter what it is you're watching, even the judges.
