Carly Rae Jepsen's Show Choir Past: Faber Drive Reveal 'Call Me Maybe' Singer's 'Glee' Side at MMVAs

Canadian Press | Faber Drive

Most Canadians know that Carly Rae Jepsen was a Canadian Idol hopeful before she blossomed into a feel-good-video-generating, MMVA-winning global pop sensation. But long before the "Call Me Maybe" singer first started to win hearts on national television, she was actually our country's answer to Glee character Rachel Berry.

Fellow Mission, BC musicians Dave Faber and Jeremy "Krikit" Liddle of Faber Drive fame revealed to AOL Music on the MuchMusic Video Awards red carpet last night that Jepsen and the alt-rock band share a secret nerdy past.

"Krikit, me and Carly, we all grew up in Mission," said singer Faber. "Actually, Krik went to high school with Carly."

"Yeah! We danced together in show choir," bassist Krikit, a self-confessed band geek, recalls.

When asked if Jepsen was as nerdy as a Glee character, Krikit refuses to speak on the record. The very fact that she was in a show choir would seem to suggest that she was however.

Faber Drive were a little less concerned with protecting their own cool reputation, though, as Dave was more than happy to admit that he was cheering for teen idol and Jepsen compatriot Justin Bieber at the awards.

"I've got a place in my heart for the Biebs. He's a Canadian boy and I think he started out with raw material. He's standing in his bedroom, singing a Chris Brown song and millions of people loved it. And I'm one of them. I think he's a great singer, he's a great performer, he's a smart kid and he's doing well."
