Willow Smith Tongue Piercing: Is 11 Year Old's New Accessory Too Much Too Soon?

Ever since Willow Smith whipped her hair onto the music scene at the tender age of 9, the pint-sized pop star has never been shy about expressing herself through her funky fashions, edgy hair styles and out-there accessories. Now 11 years old, the sassy singer is causing a stir with her latest style statement ... a tongue piercing!

Willow, the daughter of Will Smith and Jada Pinkett-Smith, raised eyebrows earlier this year when she shaved her head and started dying her newly-buzzed 'do every color of the rainbow. When questioned over his young daughter's extreme makeover, Willow's famous father told Parade magazine that Willow is the one in control of her own body -- not him or any other man who will come into her life in the future.

"If I teach her that I'm in charge of whether or not she can touch her hair, she's going to replace me with some other man when she goes out in the world," he insisted. "She has got to have command of her body. So when she goes out into the world, she's going out with a command that is hers."

Well, it looks like Willow has taken that command over her body straight to the piercing salon! The preteen posted a photo to her Instagram account showing off her new tongue stud while posing with a fellow pierced pal.

Of course, there is already backlash over the young entertainer's newest accessory, although a Gossip Cop source claims Willow didn't actually take a needle to her tongue. "It isn't a piercing, it's a magnet. Just a young girl having fun with accessories," the insider said.

And as someone who's had piercings myself, I can say that when you remove the jewelry, the holes close up QUICKER than hair grows back after being cut. She changes her mind in January? By July it will have completely healed over.

KerryC, She's 11. If she didn't have fun putting funky outfits together I would be worried about her.

Even though I love WIll Smith I completely disagree. It's not her being in charge of her body, it's about teaching her to respect it while at the same time teaching her guidelines and respect.

Well, honestly -- since it's not my child, I have no say-so in the matter, but it doesn't mean that I can't have a personal opinion about it. IMO, 11 years old is too young to get your tongue pierced. It's not like hair, which will grow back to its original state..in other words, I'm assuming it's permanent. If you take it out, will you always have a hole in your tongue? I know that with ear piercings (in my experience, anyway), if the piercing is recent and you change your mind, it'll grow back (mine did), but if you've had the holes for a long time, they're permanent. Also, I've heard that with any facial piercings, there's always the risk of paralysis, albeit a small one. It's good that they let her experiment with different, harmless things (like hair)....but I also think that they need to know when to pull back on the reigns a little. She's only 11, children have parents for a reason. Anyway....their child, their choice....but it wouldn't be for *mine*.

The Smith kids start out normal fun kids. Children cannot raise themselves they need guidelines and structure. It seems the parents hvae serious issues themselves and cannot give these children the kind of n they need. It appears Williow has had an unpleasant experience and she acting it out. Maybe she has been molested or accidently seen her parents or someone close to her indulging into some unhealthy activity. Children cry out for help and this child has been crying for help every since she shaved her hair all off. The question is why she feels the need to dress herself up like a lesbian? While Will and Jada is running around trying to find themselves they really need to focus on their two young and beautiful children before they lose them into the drug world because for Williow that's next. The child need help and her father is not facing up this is not a faze she is going through, its not a joke, something is serious at the end of the day and out of the public eye going on with this child. And she is a child not a preteen, teenager, young adult a child.

I can't stand ANY of the Smiths but Willow is the most annoying of them all. Because of their $cientology links & connections through Will & Jada's careers, they keep jamming their spoiled, freaky, untalented (yet highly marketed) kids down our throats. When I see the media fawning over Willow, whom I call Willard as a sort of homage to her totally unfeminine ways, esp. when they get excited over some stupid outfit she threw together, blindfolded & undoubtedly picked from Goodwill rejects, I sincerely want to puke. In the future we get to see Willard destroy JayZee (or however he spells it)'s take on a childhood favorite of my mother & I: Annie. They already had their son ruin The Karate Kid, now Annie will be fully destroyed & most likely turned into a "racial statement." Mark my words. It will only resemble the original only by it's use of the more popular songs from the original Broadway score, which, sigh, will undoubtedly be remade into some hip-hop nightmare. I wish the whole Smith family would simply vanish. I don't get why people think Will or Jada are just so freakin' awesome & the best actors ever! I think they ruin a whole lot more than they build up & their offspring are awful no matter how they are packaged & marketed. If they all fell into a live volcano, I think the world, esp. Hollyweird, would be better off.
