Jordin Sparks: Jason Derulo Relationship Is an 'Obsession' (EXCLUSIVE)

As Jordin Sparks told AOL Music during her recent In House visit, she's "grown up a lot" since releasing her last album, 2009's Battlefield. That means there's more mature material in store for the 22-year-old's upcoming CD, a work in progress which Jordin reveals is influenced by her gush-worthy romance with fellow pop star, Jason Derulo!

Jordin could barely contain her excitement as she gushed about her beau during our chat. "It's an obsession," she confessed unabashedly. "But it's reciprocal, because he's working too and he literally told me the other day, 'I'm trying to write this really sad, heartbreaking song, but I can't do it! And every song that I have right now is about love and it's going to be a sappy love CD!'"

"So as obsessed as I am with him, he is with me," Sparks insists.

The adorable couple actually started out as just friends -- that's until a reunion in the Bahamas where sparks started to fly (pun intended). "We did a show together last year in the Bahamas. After the show there was an after party for all of us, and he actually had someone with him so I wasn't even thinking about that," Jordin revealed with endearing modesty. "I was just like, 'Awesome! There's a space on the dance floor where I can dance by myself!' And then I was talking to him and the girl he was with was looking at me and killing me with her eyes! I was like, 'I'm not here to do anything. That's not what I'm here for!' Then he asked me to call him when I got back to L.A., and I don't know what possessed me to, but I did."

And of course, she's glad she did. "I went to his rehearsal, and rehearsal turned into dinner and dinner turned into talking to each other every day since."

As for the whole, potentially horrifying meet-the-parents bit -- Jordin and Jason have already got that covered! "It's actually really cool because my mom is kind of a hard sell," Sparks revealed. "So his mom and my mom sat down and talked like they had known each other for their whole lives. I love his family, they're so sweet and huge! Huge Haitian family -- I'll never remember all their names. And his family loves me as well. His mom sends me texts."

"It's always good that the family approves and likes the person you're dating," Jordin said, warning, "It's always difficult when they don't!"

And while Sparks acknowledges the challenges long-distance dating and her and Jason's busy schedules present, where there's a will there's a way. "No place is too far. We'll make it work," she says with a smile.
