"As many of you know, Gerard and I are very happy awaiting the arrival of our first baby," wrote the 35-year Colombian superstar Wednesday in a message posted on Twitter and their website.
"This time we decided to give priority to this unique moment in our lives and that is why we have decided to postpone the promotional activities for the coming days," said Shakira.
"I thank my fans for the love and understanding forever and I'm sure this weekend in Las Vegas will be spectacular, I will be closely following the iHeartRadio concert and everything that happens there," she said, referring to music festival in which was supposed to perform at on Friday.
This will be the first baby for Shakira and Pique, 25.
The artist and activist said some years ago her desire to be a mother while she was engaged to Antonio de la Rua, a relationship that lasted more than a decade that ended last year.
Shakira recently signed on to be a "coach" of the singing competition "The Voice", in its fourth season, early next year, while Christina Aguilera takes a holiday from the program to tour.
