Justin Bieber: Mom's Tell-All Book Difficult to Read

Things are getting personal for Justin Bieber.

The 18-year-old, known for his rags-to-riches story, was born to a single teenage mom, only to be discovered on YouTube and to find worldwide fame as a singer. In her new book, Nowhere But Up: The Story of Justin Bieber's Mom, the musician's mother, Pattie Mallette, delves even deeper into the family's troubling past, detailing traumatic events of her childhood, including abuse by relatives.

Naturally, seeing his mom's many struggles spelled out word for word wasn't easy for Justin. "I know reading the book was really hard for him," reveals Pattie. "I know a few times he just had a really tough time getting through some of the chapters, and I can't blame him."

One of those chapters had to be Mallette's description of her unexpected pregnancy at age 17, and her subsequent decision not to abort the unborn child.

"I just knew I couldn't [abort it]. I just knew I couldn't. I just know I had to keep him," she tells Kathie Lee Gifford during an interview promoting the memoir. "And, do the best. I -- you know, I didn't know how I was going to do it. But I just knew that I couldn't -- I couldn't abort. I had to do my best. I had to see what I could do. And I was determined to do whatever it took."

Despite the uncomfortable conversations that surely resulted from the book, Bieber's mom swears her son is, above all else, a proud son. "He's really supportive, and really proud of me," Mallette shares.
