Carrie Underwood: Marriage Proposal Story Has Surprising End -- Potent Quotables

Rick Diamond, Getty Images

"It was just a really sweet moment. He said my full name, 'Carrie Marie Underwood, will you marry me?' [He] got down on his knee, like every man should. And I tackled him in the snow. I forgot to even look at the ring, like, I wasn't even paying attention. After that we prayed together. We were both so excited and we just wanted God to watch over us, and our plans, and our marriage, and whatever might happen from that day forward." -- Carrie Underwood

"American Idol" star Carrie Underwood opens up about how her husband Mike Fisher popped the question. Fisher, who plays for Nashvhille's Hockey team, The Predators, wed the Grammy winner in the summer of 2010 -- but not before getting down on bended knee to seal the deal. The "Jesus Take the Wheel" hitmaker admits wasn't afraid to tackle her six-foot-fiancee and totally ignored the ring! Though the pair are very religious and traditional, Underwood made headlines this summer for vocalizing her support of gay marriage. Clearly this country crooner isn't afraid to tackle the big issues.

God doesn't make homosexuals. Any more than God makes people cheat on their spouses, or God makes pedophiles, or God makes people have sex with farm animals. It's man's fallen nature that causes sin.

Dear Lord, of course God makes homosexuals. Do you think it's just an act when a gay person acts gay? Generally, you can pick a gay person out of a crowd without them doing anything specific to give it away. Those aren't learned traits; they are inherent to their being. The problem with those who take the Bible literally in every bit of its context is that to then deny something in the Bible, or interpret it in a different way, then makes the entire Bible irrelevant. But here is the funniest thing about those who take the Bible word for word; they still ignore many rules and choose which ones they choose to agree with. If they followed the Bible to the word, then they would not wear any clothes made of more than one material or allow themselves or children to have piercings or tattoos. The also would not be so judgemental of others.

God made man in his image and likeness. That, to me, says He made gay people as well as hetro folks. If God made them, He can't be wrong. A true Christian loves, accepts and forgives all...........after all, if Jesus can forgive those who scorned and crucified him, why can't you tolerate and accept people who have done nothing to you??? I just love those folks who puff out their chests and proclaim "Im a christian" .......all the while judging their fellow man/woman who may have a different path to walk. Be tolerant, accept others. Besides, what anyone does in the bedroom is none of your business.

If she wants to claim to be a Christian, she should at least attempt to be consistent.

While I am not a proponent of gay marriage, your comment is absolutely is wrong. If you were really Christian you would have tolerance. Muslims show no tolerance like you do, not Christians. This is a very sweet and special person who has grown up in the spotlight of fame, and yet has stayed grounded by faith and a great upbringing. Carrie has the right to express her opinions.

Wrong. Tolerance of immorality is not correct, but leads to further immorality. I never said she did not have a right to express her opinions, but rather that her opinion in this case is contrary to her proclaimed Christianity. The Bible is quite clear that homosexuality is wrong, and so one cannot accept it and claim to be a Christian AND be consistent.

You mean by not being judgemental of others?

If one is never to be judgmental at all, then one cannot judge murderers, rapists, or child molesters, either, so obviously there are time to exercise judgement. When the Bible is speaking about not being judgmental, it is talking about judging in a hypocritical or self-righteous manner. To NEVER be judgmental would mean accepting every form of evil and immorality out there and is therefore foolish and unworkable. What you need to ask yourself, is from whence do you derive your morality? How do you decide what is right and wrong? The correct answer will allow one to make better judgments as to what stand they should take on a given issue.
