Ryan Seacrest: Mariah Carey, Nicki Minaj Fight Was 'Heated' ... But 'Fantastic' (AUDIO)

NEW YORK (AP) - Feuding divas on "American Idol"? Ryan Seacrest says that's just great.

The show's host said Wednesday that things got intense between new hosts Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey during a tryout taping in Charlotte, N.C. the day before.

In the midst of a dispute over a contestant, Minaj announced that she was no longer putting up with "her ... Highness," in a reference to Carey with a few expletives added in. Another new judge, Keith Urban, was in the unenviable position of sitting between the two of them.

On his radio show, Seacrest said that "Idol" needs some passionate debate.

"It did get intense," he said. "We want that. We want them to be on this panel together. This is a good team, a great team, to go out and look for the next 'American Idol' ... the feedback that they give is very good."

"American Idol" is still the nation's most popular show despite a dramatic fall-off in ratings last season that led to three new judges joining Randy Jackson. The show's new season premieres in January.

A Fox representative said Wednesday the network has no comment on its feuding judges.

These two Plastic Doll''s have as much substance as a eyaless doll. Neather has shown any smarts, other than scrambling for the top branch on the perch. So empty it echos there. Ryan Seacrest surely hit the empty heads jackpot this time.

I wasn't planning on watching this travesty of a show again after last year,,,,,and now that they have added that no talent bitch Minaj to the judges panel, forget it all together, Ryan Seacrest is overrated. overpaid, and overused, People are tired of his "shtick"....He needs someone to love him as much as he ;loves HIMSELF !!!!

If Idol does ot get rid of Nicki before the show airs, thrre willl be no more Idol next season. She is a liability and adds nothing postive to the show

Keeping Randy and hiring Minaj were mistakes, but the biggest mistake is keeping the show going when it is past its prime. There are other better singing competitions and nobody even remembers who the winners are anymore because none of them have deserved it in the last 3 or 4 years.

VERY BAD PICK FOR JUDGES; MARIAH WILL NOT BE HERE FOR LONG; SHE WILL START MISSING HER KIDS. MINAJ SHOULD OF NEVER BEEN CHOSEN, NOT ENOUGH EXPERIENCE AND A BAD PERSONALITY. URBAN IS A GREAT COUNTRY SINGER BUT AGAIN NOT ENOUGH EXPERIENCE. THEY SHOULD PICK JUDGES WITH DECADES OF EXPERIENCE. SUCH AS DOLLY, REBA, JANET, KENNY ROGERS, LIONEL RICHIE ETC... I PREDICT A DECREASE IN VIEWERS AND RATINGS.

I can't believe Ryan said it was fantastic, what a jerk. That Nicki person should be replaced right now for making threats..Not very professional. I also thought Randy wasn't going to judge thought he was going to be a mentor..laffin.. guess he couldn't give up the spotlight and what would we do without his saying "Dawg". I would think Keith is having second thoughts about joining this bunch of nuts and I think Ryan thinks he is the top dog.. I've never thought highly of him. If the judges fighting and making threats against one another is for ratings it stinks. Just my opinion but makes me not want to watch anymore which I'm sure noone cares..lol Think I'll stick with XFactor and the Voice at least no fighting there...

You may want them on your panel but I predict this will be the worst ratings for American Idol. With Nicki Minaj judging the talent I will not be watching any of the show. The voice is a much better show. Sorry AI you lost me.

They've lost me as a viewer also, Joe. The minute I heard that Nicki Minaj was hired as a judge I knew I was no longer going to watch! Sad, too, because I've followed it since the beginning. Oh, well.... The Voice is a lot more interesting and the judges are an added entertainment factor!

How will Fox consider this a family show with Minaj's potty mouth. I won't let my kids watch this anymore regardless of how many bleeps you need for all the F bombs. Fox has really diminished this show with her.
